Returning
I describe the project as a civic sanctuary: ritual, memorial and grief care within a landscape.
In the ritual building, I am proposing the possibility of witnessing. At the water edge, I want the release of ashes to remain visible as it joins something larger.
Yet I also say that grief care needs protection from ritual. I am holding a wish to see beside a wish not to be exposed. ^july-witness-cue
The memorial is where I keep imagining people returning: food, stories, objects, art, time with others. ^july-return-cue
There also needs to be somewhere for quiet, individual remembrance. I do not want gathering to turn memory into entertainment.
All of this belongs to the project as I am presenting it. I cannot assume it will belong together easily in space.
I can name the three programmes. I am still trying to understand what passes between them, and what should not.
Reading onward
Read gathering, individual remembrance and grief care. The reading ends after “Grief care and belonging”, beside an excerpt from this entry and a link back here. ^july-knowledge-fork
Also present: witnessing and protection. If you arrived from that discussion, return to witnessing, visibility and exposure.
Continue in Time: 30 August.
